    HI all,

LVT is meant to imitate the look of wood or stone but is it also meant to feel something like wood or stone (eg hard etc) underfoot or should I expect it to feel soft ie something like lino? In other words when walking on LVT are you meant to think feels like it might be wood or stone or are you meant to think this clearly feels soft like lino and so is not really wood or stone?

    Thanks....

Hi Gegs, lvt is not in my opinion meant to feel like wood or stone. Yes it imitates it and looking from a standing position good ones you'll never tell the difference until closer inspection. It is also warmer under foot than would and stone. Definitely does not feel like Lino when walked on.

Of you pop into a local independent shop they should have samples that you can test for yourself. Good advice from DM Flooring above too.

From my testing they feel very different underfoot.

    Moduleo - a bit slippy/rubbery

Karndean Van Gogh - really rubbery, slippy and fake underfoot. Caused by the thick textured surface.

Karndean Opus - small number of not that rough ticks. So a subtle, smooth surface that's not as grippy as Amtico etc.

Distinctive Autograph - pretty grippy, like Amtico etc. But much prefer the finish because it doesn't have ticks - so better with light reflection
I don't know what their signature range that have grain simulating texture feel like underfoot. Hopefully not rubbery.

QuickStep Livyn - very matt, not slippy. Feels and looks the most like real wood out of all the products I've seen.
And by that I mean real wood, not engineered wood. It has a very matt finish.
Gives me the impression of unfinished/untreated wood.

Amtico - rough, and grippy. It has a hard surface and lot of ticks. I don't like the product because of that. (note not all their products have ticks, but the Spacia wood range does at least).

Vusta - like Amtico from what I've seen.
Polyflor - like Amtico from what I've seen.

So, if you want to avoid a rubbery feel, I'd avoid Moduleo and Karndean Van Gogh.

Amtico has "a lot of ticks". What are ticks?
Sorry this is a new area for me. Thanks.
