Hi. Looking for some advice please.
It's flooring decision time for our new build and I am struggling to make a final decision.
We have decided to go for an lvt floor for most of the house, over two floors so it's a huge area to cover and therefore a very important decision.

We were pretty much ready to go with Amtico Spacia Dry Cedar but yesterday my builder came in with quick step samples and said "how about that?". I almost dismissed it but it turns out i like the look of QS better because of the matt finish. I've always found the Amtico finish too shiny (i can deal with their barnwood finish but i really dislike the tick one). Also, QS is significantly cheaper.

So, i am now considering QS but i'm concerned about a few things / have some questions.

1/ quality wise, is QS vinyl any good?

2/ floating vs glue: do you feel the floor moving as you walk on a floating vinyl floor? This may sound like a stupid question but we had laminate flooring in our old house and you could feel movement with every step (although it could have been because the old floor boards underneath were uneven and even the thick underlay couldn't prevent movement). Is one type much better than the other?

3/ if we go for floating: the skirting boards are already in place upstairs. Is there any way they can be removed without getting damaged? I hate beading and i read you need to leave a 2mm gap?

4/ if we go for the glue option, do we still need to leave a gap? Is a layer of plywood also required or can it be glued down straight onto chipboard?

5/ We have underfloor heating downstairs. The gable is pretty much all glass and South facing. Does that affect our choice one way or another?

6/ last but not least: with Amtico, we would be using a local company that is Amtico approved and they have come recommended. With QS, we're pretty much on our own, the joiners building our house will lay the floor. I have no doubt that they would do a grand job with the floating floor but i hear the glued down version requires expert fitters, is that also the case with QS?

I've never had vinyl floors before and i'm really unsure what to do so any advice you may have will be greatly appreciated!

Check out distinctive flooring for matt embossed finishes ...Italian or signature plank range looks fantastic. Go for stick down rather than a floating floor click system over a large area.

Hi Adam, thanks for replying. Just had a look at distinctive website as i hadn't heard of it before. It does look nice. Ok, so glue is better, can i just ask what the issue is with a floating floor over a large area? Thanks

Your joiners won't do as good a job as a decent floor layer. The QS also comes as a dry back product so you can stick it down. You must have 6mm ply put down at least and if anyone has advised you to stick to the chipboard I wouldn't let them near the installation. Floated floor would be ok over chipboard. If you use QS you should be looking to use their approved Fitter's maybe?

Nothing against a floating floor etc but I think in your circumstances a direct stick lvt would prove much better
