I have recently bought an 1800's house that wasn't level. We have leveled the floor by using 6x2 joists, a laser level and then laying chipboard. We originally wanted slate style tiles in the kitchen so bought over £300 worth of 9mm hardie backer (concrete boards) to lay on top of the clipboard for the tiles to go on (after researching). We have now been told by the tiler that he can't guarantee the tiles won't crack over time so we would be best going with vinyl or laminate. We have decided on Karndean as this seems the best quality vinyl and they do slate style, tile style ones like we wanted. My question is can we lay the backer boards on the chipboard still and they lay the karndean on top of them? Effectively using the hardie backer instead of ply? It is too late to return the backer boards. Also how would we lay the karndean on the hardie backer? Would really appreciate some advice!
wouldnt say that was true by any stretch to be honest plenty better than karndean and usually cheaper, especially if you were potentially looking at their knight tile range as others have said sell the hardibacker stuff its not suitable for lvt, personally id of advised putting 18mm ply down instead of chipboard when putting a new floor in, then you probably could of put the slate down with no problems on flexible adhesive.
