    Evening gents,

could any of you recommend someone to look at a property in the Stockport area?

Background story, I was due to install karndean, about 40 square, in the down stairs living areas. When I turned up the subfloor was something I've near seen before. It's about 20mm thick and black/brown in colour. After a bit of research I think it is Asphalt. The house was build in the 50s and I know this was a common material used back then, which also acted as a DPM. The floor is not level or smooth and has major cracks in it. I got the advice that if it was ashpalt it would need to be removed before even thinking about laying an LVT. As I don't know the area I asked my sister in law to get a local firm to have a look. They turned up yesterday and said it was fine to go over with a latex based smoothing compound but not a water based one. Also in an area where the subfloor has been dug out and replace with concrete was reading damp and would need a DPM.

Working in the south I have never seen a sub floor like it and I don't agree with what the guy said. I maybe wrong but I thought I'd get advice from you guys and hopefully you would know someone that could take a look for me. I'm willing to pay for your time as I need to get the right solution or the future mother in law will kill me.

    Thanks in advance.

I've gone over them with jumpax before. Have to level it first and put down a visqeen sheet as a dpm
