    Hi All,

We’re saving up to have carpets fitted in our lounge, up the stairs etc next year.

What would you advise to be the best way to go about it, please?

If you were a punter like me, would you go to somewhere like Carpetright and get carpet/fitting all in one?

If I source the carpets myself, would any good fitter worth his salt be happy to fit what I’ve bought – or is that not how things work?

Would the fitter rather source what I’ve found/like, and make his bit on top? With the ridiculous deals on places like fleabay, maybe the fitter couldn’t match it.

Like everyone else, I’m trying to get the best deal / job done. But I don’t want to hack off the fitter or go about it in the wrong way.

    All the best.

Having managed many stores for the flooring multiples such as Carpetright you will find that they make most of their profit on the extras such as underlay gripper and doorplates. If you want to save money I would source these from your fitter as he is the one who is going to be putting it down.
As to the carpet again try your fitter first as you may get a better price with him in a package deal.

The key is to find a good fitter, ask about and try and get word of mouth for the best one in your area

Try a local independent retailer. Prices are usually better than carpet right and a more personal service and after care.

You might save a few quid going with a fitter although I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable if something went wrong and I only had a mobile number to go by.

Same with the internet you can send a email?

Better with bricks and mortar you can walk in and have a face to face discussion. Safe in the knowledge they won't disappear over night and usually rely on word of mouth for new business so every customer counts.
