Hello I am looking for a qualified professional fitter (in the North Hampshire / Berkshire area) who could provide a (short) formal written assessment of my Amtico floor with recommendations about how the problems could be resolved (or whether, indeed, the floor is as good as it could be, given the age of the house, circumstances of the fit etc). We had c. 70m2 of Amtico Spazio floor laid before Christmas. This covers the old house (where there are floorboards) and the solid floor in two areas where we have extended. The floorboards have been covered with 6mm ply and the solid floor was screeded, and there are a number of different levels to bridge between. I understood these difficulties from the outset but I do not feel that he different levels have been bridged smoothly, the finished floor is not smooth at all (it does not go directly from the high points to the low points but dips up and down) and is very creaky. I have had an informal opinion from a local fitter that ‘it all needs to be taken up and started again’, but he was not able to put this in writing (it’s a small town!). I feel that an expert written report would help to move things forward between ourselves and my floor fitter. He has offered to screw down the boards to resolve the (extensive) creaking/movement, but I still feel this wouldn't give the quality of finish I expected when I parted with a very large sum of money for the work (and I have heard from others that the Amtico tiles do not re-stick very well either). I would very much appreciate any advice or recommendations for the work. Regards Matt
Wood floors will creak, I’ve re screwed many down the years only for the creaks to return through expansion etc, in regards to the uos and downs, it all depends on what was quoted for and what you were expecting. Did you get any alternative quotes..... recently I lost a job as my recommendation was 12mm ply and another firm used 5.5mm. The end result was a up and down floor, but in terms of the product there were no issues and customer cut there losses and had me re do the entire area. It does sound a bit odd as if it were me I’d highlight to customer the ups and downs and then make a suggestion to overcome them. Check your quote and see what you have paid for !!!!
