Hi all.. I have been prepping my sub floor and the environment for the last 3-4 weeks and whilst gaining the correct humidity (40% )in the rooms the edges of the chipboard have curled, due to all the moisture being removed from the subfloor.. the sub floor is 9% and the parquet flooring is 8-9% so i’m Happy with that.. The curling of the caberdek is my issue.. It’s not everywhere .. and floor is still sound and not creaking.. The curling makes up about 2mm.. will this be ok? Will the floor glue get over this? I have random lengths of 75mm hardwood flooring Or should I? 1. Remove the lips. 2. Apply flexi latex across the whole floor before gluing? TIA
Did the caberdeck get wet and now it’s been dried? Is the caberdeck fixed? If not you can’t install hardwood floor to it. If it’s fixed and dry Sand back the joins and ply over first. Shouldn’t really fix solid wood flooring to caberdeck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Caberdeck cannot be fixed direct to it' not a stable product (not even that good either imo) as merit said and no doubt every floorlayer who replies next, you need to ply it out with a thick ply probably atleast 12mm really then fix to that, caberdeck isn' waterproof either as if it was it wouldn' of dished on you and is very rarely put down correctly. If you had used marine ply you could probably fix to that but anything less than ply isn't suitable
Yes, did’nt mean waterproof as such.. meant treated so it won’t rot.. so what’s the difference between chipboard and treated chipboard (caberdek) ? As you can fit flooring to chipboard.. obvs with glue only ..
You can fit loose laid products on it or carpet, you can't stick to.it as it' an unstable product, voids all warranty sticking to chipboard. Difference between chipboard and caberdeck is with caberdeck sites take less care in keeping it dry as they build the houses as it' "waterproof" which is a half truth, most of the time winter builds have dished caberdeck boards or the dreaded m3 puddles everywhere. Id ban it and spec 24mm ply but caberdeck is quicker so will never happen
Granted that ply is better.. but any sub floor, if normalised .. should be ok? no? Caberdek say it’s stable but obviously in ideal conditions.. is it from experience that you would’nt lay on it? As really.. as long as conditions stay maintained the chipboard should be ok shouldn’t It? I’d ply it.. but it’s not an option due to conditions and knock on effects elsewhere ..
Chipboard, any type of chipboard is shit, sounds like you have made your mind up to be honest expect the wood to open up eventually though, it wont last
For gods sake don’t put wood on any chipboard product, you absolutely need to ply it out what you have is only suitable for floated floors and carpet and honestly I would rather over ply before fitting those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Have you already got the flooring you intend to fit? Don’t even consider gluing to it without an intermediate plywood layer, I presume you are hesitant to use plywood because of the additional thickness and the knock on effect to the adjacent areas? Can you reduce the thickness of the finished flooring to compensate?
Don’t ply it then and ignore all advice from everyone on an advice forum for professionals as you seem intent on not plying!!!!!
Wisa Spruce ply 8 x 2 18mm or 22mm would be perfect here. you cant Glue onto P5 chipboard this a particalboard so make the surface weak and also has a resin in the board which can effect the glue you are going to use.
