I was only talking about this yesterday with a customer. Id hope to continue into retirement age but cant see myself fitting past 55 at this rate. Body feels battered o_O

I know of a fitter who is 59 and hes doing bloody well for his age and what he does. He loves doing laminate and the shop I do their Lvt for gives him plenty of work and he keeps up. He has problems with his back so can only do light work but loves hallways/stairs & landings because its a smaller task. He was saying his back gives him that much agony that if he was to take on big bedrooms etc it would take him longer to fit from scratch (including the carpet/underlay in) than it would a hall/stairs/landing ....he must be fcuked!

Looking to retire at 107. But I'll probably carry on part time after that just to keep occupied.

I am still working hard at 63, can't afford to retire, the pension is crap. However, I do realise I cannot maintain the pace I work at forever, and I enjoy my work. Looking to go part time at the age of 66 hopefully take on selected work to the age of 70. I think a lot more of us are going to have to work longer.

Plan is to retire at 50 which will be in 3 years time, mostly because my body is shagged and dont want to spend my retirement being pushed round in a wheelchair!
Problem is I do get a bit of a buzz out of it and will probably get bored stiff in no time - I've worked so many evenings and weekends over the years that I wouldn't know what to do with myself. I suspect I will carry on to some extent but cut right back to just my best customers.
Knowing my luck I'll drop dead at 50 anyway!

When i was in my thirties I was set to retire at 60, sadly that just can't happen. You are right in what you say, the body has had a bashing, but finances just don't seem to allow early retirement. I am a little more selective now about the work I take on now, so I can prolong my working life, I also try not to do weekends now, but the odd one creeps in still. It's not easy this flooring game!!
