getting loads of calls this year off customers who have bought their own Lamainte. I don’t bother with them and gave them a mates number as always want to supply and fit now.

Do you do them ? Is it worth the hassle as packs could be damaged or they haven’t got enough.

Bollocks to that I don't do private jobs but would only be possibly interested if making a skim, if someone buys there own materials and its not something I've suggested then no way it's become a diy job as far as I'm concerned

Yeah I do labour only, pays the bills.
Obviously I price higher on labour if I fit only and not supply. Don't mind it to be honest

Not done a lot but when I get the call I go round and check it out etc. It's nice to slash a load of carpet up and leave all the sh*t behind....sometimes add my own if any on the van...discretely :)

Never used to entertain the lvt when a customer rings me and tells me they got it off the internet, I make it clear though the price is what I say it is and If I have to return because they under ordered then it's an extra charge regardless my price on the area I'm fitting.

Don’t do customers own laminate. Use to do loads but the quality is getting worse and worse. I have no idea what some of it’s made out of, the last one I did from wicks looked like it was weetabix. Do fit online carpets and put the fitting rate up, again more often now they have some sort of fault with them so no guarantee on it from us

I do it but only if it's a decent job, if it's a little hallway in in cheap stuff then I won't, if it's a square lounge in decent quality laminate I'll do it but charge enough

Just got a job confirmed fitting t+g engineered that customer has bough but I'm supplying screed and adhesive so I don't have a problem with those kind of jobs

i'm doing two at the moment and both have been a bit of a nightmare. First one is £6/m2 6mm on bowed chipboard and they want it on the stairs, they're decent people though and are paying extra to sort out the chipboard and i think they got the hint about not doing the stairs. Second one they didn't order enough or any underlay and the laminate turned up half broken or the print doesn't reach the end of the plank so basically put it all on me to sort out so it's taking ALOT longer than anticipated and i had to put my foot down with them about it to get some more money, not a fun experience but an experience all the same and while it's not been easy it's all work i've gotten completely independantly so i'm fine with it for now.

Was you originally charging the same rate to put it on their stairs??

i did the ground floor on a day rate and now moving up to the first floor. I've given them a price for laying ply but nothing else yet so i'm playing it by ear. When they said about the stairs i just said about it being slippery and i think they got the hint. I haven't got the tools for it anyway.

Constant issues with cheap stuff. It doesn’t work so it’s only good for diy. Bit like Moduleo clic

I think ordering online doesn't help either. Companies send rubbish out and hope the customer will just put up with it etc. Happends too often to not be the case

I think they key point is what brand of laminate flooring are they asking you to lay. When buying online it's best to use a company with good reviews, have their own warehouse premises, showroom. The B&Q,Wicks etc......own brand laminates are generally cheap as chips which is reflected in their quality.

Krono Swiss/Orinal/Tex, Quickstep, Haro Tritty all good brands and well made.

I'm really surprised. Their product is normally first rate. I visited their factory back in 2005 and the quality of manufacturing processes and QA of the finished product is/was really impressive. Did they quibble when you raised it with them?

No it was pretty straight forward, it isn’t the first time we’ve had an issue with their laminates though so we’ve shelved them for now.

Yeah I went few years ago to Germany and it was amazing. Had some problems myself too though on last couple of jobs.
