Hi, I'm covering a floor ready for altro safety to be fitted, the floor is ply at the moment but isn't great and not level in places. I was planning to cover it in 6mm ply ready for fitting. Would 6mm ply be thick enough and would it level it out etc. Any help would be appreciated thanks. Oh does anyone know an altro floor fitted around the Wirral area. We have the flooring ready to lay just need a fitter.
Depending how unlevel the floor is you have 2 options... Re-ply it with a 9mm or 6mm if you can get away with it but my choice would be to use a fibre screed and float it over the existing floor.
If unlevel, fresh ply then a fibre reinforced leveller over the top will sort it out, thickness depending. Though I wouldn’t tackle that if I was a diy’er. Dazlight here is from the wirral
Thanks for all your replys the ply down already is 22mm I think. So would it be best to put down the fibre screed on top would this self level? Is it best to get some1 to do this or could I do it? How do I speak to daylight
Providing it's secure then yes fibre reinforce screed over the top. All depends on 'how badly unlevel' it is though but usually get away with floating over the top. You could try it yourself but if it's not flat enough you'll need to get a pro in and do it again so you may aswell just let the pro do it in the first place.
Haha sorry it was the auto correct did write dazlight. Thanks again were can you buy the prime and screed, could you do that then self level or is that pointless. Dazlight do you fit altro flooring by any chance?
Oh and the floor isn't to bad just a slight dip in one area but you can tell. The floor had altro fitted originally but it was worn and torn in places when we got the place so we ripped it up. It left marks were the glue had stuck and took small chips of the plywood up when we ripped it up, not an easy job that why it needs something doing to it to prep for the new altro we have.
