So what you are saying here then is you shouldn't pay the extra because its their mistake??

So if they had told you it was damp in the first place and was going to cost the 1200 extra you would scrapped lvt altogether and looked at an alternative floor?

Other than Carpet in your kitchen which I doubt you would have that, you would still be looking at a dpm IF the floor is damp like they saying...

Guess it's a bit of an head scratcher because we don't know if your floor has damp or the fitters have picked up the moisture from their screed that wasn't fully dried.

Genuine questions and not having a dig, I'm just trying to figure it out before I go on to what I'll say next

If they had quoted me 1200 extra than would have looked at another company, especially when another fitter had mentioned doing a dpm 1st, then screed then fit lvt for around the same price, which I had told the company I went with and he said dont need it and anyway their adhesive has a dpm.

I went with this company as felt I could trust them more...

Have you paid any if the bill?
It is out of order if they didnt tell you the price BEFORE they cracked on with it.

What has the firm actually said to you when you have raised this with them about doing the work without your go ahead first?

How big is this area ? 1200 quid sounds a lot for a coat of DPM and screed ?

Not heard back from them yet.i told the my my grievance and they have just said it was for the screed and not addressed my annoyance that such a large sum to add to the bill they should have informed me

My main concern is, potentially could have been avoided and just a dpm 1st and then a shed

I had paid 2/3 of it in advance.

The area is 110 sq meters approximately

110 is a decent size area but still sounds to much to me especially considering it wasn’t quoted for either

For 110m2 £1200 is way too low I would expect £2400 £10m2 for screed £12m2 for dpm, £1200 sounds like they’ve done a bloody cheap deal I’d snatch their hands off.

110m2, Ok that paints a better picture. If the fitters are on m2 price then the screed alone would be a 3rd of that just for putting it down then depending on the dpm price and how much m2 price they are on could explain why it's a large sum.
All depends on whether they are on m2 or day rate but without mentioning prices I work for a shop that pay me a rate that sounds similar rate to what they charge minus the material. I'm just going off the dpm cost but if you say they had 1 'tin' then o_O

Were they sub contractors? Or firms own fitters?

Did you say it was 1 tin they put down or a tub/container?

I think thy sub contract to them..

They used 12kg of f ball f78 i think it said on the bottle, it was a blue liquid...

Then they did a very thin screed on top the next day.

I left them to it as they did through the night...They said they will do 1 coat, then need to wait 1 hour to dry, then a 2nd coat, which takes 4 hours to dry...

Also parts of the floor arent level, they are putting that down to the screed the builder did before them, i thought by them screeding and sanding it should level out...But then again, I dont know much about flooring.

Well that would still require around 22 units.
For a 2 coat with f78 they would need 2-3 12kg tubs, think you can get 18kg tub but I've never used that size.

1 tub you say though so that ain't right for starters. Cowboys probably watered it down :D
