Hello all, nice to join a forum of experts, it's humbling. A bit on my situation. I have been considering preparing a subfloor with ardex n.a. however I'm not confident that an alcohol based adhesive will play nice with the na (Am putting down reclaimed parquet with bitumen residue on the base so need to use a tested adhesive). Floor is dry, has had Marley tiles removed and has thin residue of glue used to adhere the tiles. I know na goes down nicely over this residue but I want to know if anyone has used wakol pu280 over the same adhesive residue. Speaking to a floor specialist he advised two coats of this over the residue will sort out my dpm and then I can prime and level with wakol products which will take the lecol5500. Any help greatly appreciated. There is very little online on wakol in general. Thanks again for taking the time.
Thanks dazlight, i will look.to see if i ca find someone that will do it for a reasonable price. LEt's hypothetically say I didn't really want to grind off.potentially harmful asbestos residue myself and the price is too high for someone else to do it, would the pu280 work? Cheers
Hypothetically, ask Wakol if they will give you a guarantee that the PU280 will do the job and you will get your hypothetic answer. Also, you need to remove the bitumen residue from the blocks. Why you would want to use a solvent based adhesive is beyond me. Use an MS Polymer or Hybrid.
Guys, I have lost count of how many people on these forums recommend a dpm sandwich with ardex. The wakol guys told me it will be fine but the ardex guys also told me their products are fine. I agree that to do it perfectly and of course as many experts rightly advise on here, is to grind or rip up the screed and redo, this for me is not an option. It's a matter of what the guys on here have tried and tested, hence the point of the forum to learn from others. If no one has used p280 in this way then fine, either ardex na is the only other option apart from grinding or there might be otherr suitable systems to explore. No manufacturer will give a guarantee, let's be honest. And the reason I am.leaning toward the solvent based adhesive is that its commonly accepted to use with reclaimed parquet with residue on them. An ms polymer glue woukd be ideal over ardex n.a. but it won't bind well enough to the old parquet unless I remove all traces of residue on the blocks. Do the hybrid adhesives bond to bitumen residue? If so that solves my issue and i can go the na sandwich. Cheers
You have to remove the bitumen residue from the wood first, NA doesn’t have the compressive strength for a solid wood floor and you always need to dpm below a solid wood. Grind off the concrete, DPM1C then a high compression strength screed no if buts or maybes , you have one option just need to get to it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I know a couple of firms that use Wakol over bitumen and other dpms over it. I agree grinding bitumen doesn’t sound good to me. It all comes down to how well stuck the bitumen is, how thick it is and how damp the floor is. If the solid wants to move only the bond strength of the bitumen is holding it in place. I wouldn’t trust solid on a old crappy floor. Bitumen on the blocks needs removing as that will be weak bond to anything! Na no good for solid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks for replies guys, appreciated. Looking at hiring the grinder now to remove the residue, about 0.5mm thick so with good diamond disk should be a days work. Then thinking dpm 1c, primer then k15 with cleaned blocks and rewmar adhesive. Good system?
Defo get rid of the bitumen on the blocks, none of the decent modern adhesive work with it. I always speak to the technical guys, ie Wakol, always very helpful, they’ll want to help, they’ll want you to use their products.
