Hello all you Gurus on hard flooring and LVT. I believe that I have read on this forum, and I have adhered to the specification so far stated here, that a maximum of 6mm ply can be applied to chipboard. Why can 9mm not be used?
Minimum is 6mm. I usually just screed on chipboard. Easier and cheaper dependant on the job spec and situation.
Screeding on chipboard gives me the fear . I’d always rather ply - then screed on the ply if it’s a level issue
Don't see the issue as long as you use the correct screed and prime. It's basically latexing over ply. Also I get a better finish with screening
I know about what's been said before about not screening on chipboard due to the make up of it but I've never had a problem in all the time I've done it, yes there may be a time it blows on me and costs me to fix it. But I think you have that risk most of the time if screed hasn't been stored correctly etc.
Your defiantly taking a risk It is possible to screed over chip board with newer primers like Uzin PE680 and Fball prime and fill but Prim grip is questionable Not saying to doesn't work but I'd be interested to see how well it bonds to the chipboard. Main problem you have is movement in the chipboard The screed may stay bonded but your going get cracks through the screed where the board joins are which will show through a vinly covering. Always better to ply and I also think it's quicker plus you can start laying the floor same day dependant on the size of the area
I'm not saying your not right in what your saying. But I put my faith in the products I'm using and follow there spec so if it goes pete tong it's down to them to put right. Same as if you sandwich na on 1c if it goes pop who's to blame? You or ardex! That's there spec.
Or, as Adam said, Softlay it. We have just used 500 sq. m of the product, and its very, very good. Our project, was an out of hours fit, with working hours 11pm-6am Lay Softlay, start fitting. Massive time saver
Thanks for the correction. Is there any reason why a much thicker ply cannot be screwed to a poor chipboard floor, say 18mm?
This is new to me, but upon viewing the product I am interested, especially as we come across lots of thermoplastic tile floors. Is there an introduction YouTube or a one day installation course available? Can safetyfloor be fitted on top of it?
Ad Adam would be best explaining the full details, but we have just fitted 500sq. of safety sheet on it
