Really fed up of our downstairs flooring which is a combination of worn out carpet and a couple of very different laminates. We had the bathroom done in Karndean about 3/4 years ago and really like it. So now we would really like to have the whole downstairs covered in the same flooring through out, the house is pretty open plan so study runs in to lounge into the dining room into the kitchen into the utility. Not too fussed about patterns etc. Just like something easy to look after, hard wearing and a bit more up to date. Needs to have a good wear rating as there is no central hall, so all traffic basically walks through the middle of the lounge and dining room. So LVT is the obvious starting point but are there any other hard flooring options worth considering? Found someone suggesting High-pressure Laminate as an alternative - thoughts? I assume roll vinyl still looks like roll vinyl? Reckon we need somewhere around 52-54m sq and I know the floor will need some work before LVT can be laid as we had the garage knocked though so whilst most of the floor is concrete it is chipboard in a room and a bit and there’s a bit of a ridge (few mm) where they meet. So ply and some levelling compound in my completely unexpert opinion Concerned we wouldn’t be able to afford LVT based on what the bathroom cost but I guess we might benefit a bit now it’s a larger area? Also found there are a lot more LVT options out there now - I’ve been getting samples sent through from pretty much everyone that’s been recommend on here - really like the Distintive and probably the Moduleo is my fav at the moment though the one small sample of ployflor looks alright as well. Cost will be a big factor here so trying to work out what we can afford, the approx product cost can found online but I’ve no real idea what fitting would cost. Is there a very rough number we could work from? Are we talking £20, £30, £40 m? I guess we need to get some proper quotes but hard to know where to start, Seems to be many Karndean or Amtico places around but the more wallet friendly options are harder to come by. I’m based in Oxfordshire if there are any suggestions or recommendations. Any other LVT manufacturers I should be looking at? Thanks
This things that will cost the same is the preparation and install costs, the only change in real costs will be the product you choose, be it polyflor, distinctive or moduleo, based on 55sq, if one is £20 and the other is £21, it’s only £55 difference etc, the costs will be dependent on how involved the preparation is, try sp carpets in abingdon, good company
Yes it’s that cost of prep and fitting that is the unknown element right now and what I was hoping to just get a very rough ballpark idea for. Can get an idea of the product cost online, looks like we can potentially save around £10 m by avoiding Karndean / Amtico etc. And to be fair from the samples we have i potentially prefer some of the others - so a win - win! Thanks - Will give SP Carpets a call. Shame they are the wrong side of oxford (we’re in Bicester) but not like it’s a million miles away.
