    Hi All

Helping my Eldely Parents - they Just Had bathrooom redone due to leak and lots Drama , but i am helping them fix last few details as I am a Cabinetmaker and mechanic so pretty handy ..

basically Everything new and a bead white silicone is around all edge of room (as tiny bathroom tiles to floor) so wet and humid -
But the Silicone is already Lifting off the New Vinyl (lino) floor basically looks like stuck to the wall but not the floor .
so this will eventually get water under it and need redoing i am guessing ..

So whats the best way or best Product to use on Vinyl floor - I have siliconed lots stuff and never seen new lift like this so guessing its the Vinyl just dont like the bathroom silicone he used ..
    any help Cheers Mark

?? Timber skirting - no tiles go to floor but stuck ok on wall - just seems to be lifting or peeling on the Vinyl floor

WHAT TIMBER - tiles go to floor and vinyl flooring so the joint is from tiles to vinyl - or next to shower tray (epoxy tray material - to vinyl floor )
we are talking about the bead of silicone all around the wall to floor joint -
i am guessing the Vinyl has a coating on it so silicone didnt stick or the tradesman use a cleaner not compatiable with silicone just before putting his bead on - so i image all has to come up and get re-siliconed again
photos uploaded though hard to see - silicone on Vinyl floor is basicall not stuck at all
but whats best stuff to use -

Probably just cheap silicone .In my experience getting sealant off is an absolute pain.aparently there are solvents to get it off but I've never used them.just gently scrape off with stanley blade.the reason I mentioned timber was I have seen it happen where new chipboard is used on subfloor ,or if timber skirting boards are new they can also shrink and pull sealent off.but as you said it's tiles on wall.

Maybe they siliconed shower tray and other stuff in and that’s ok at moment
But guess don’t matter how or why just need to fix it
    What’s the best way
What’s the best stuff to seal edge again - silicone or like a sikaflex type stuff ?
What brands is best - I have used the no nonsense stuff from screwfix and usually pretty good

    Hi ,

It looks like it hasn't been applied correctly .
Cut off , scrape with a scrap of wood , clean off with methalated spirit . Use a good quality high modulus mastic ( C50 ) .
Use a set of mastic profilers ( screwfix )

    Thanks

    Hi alban

Thanks for the info - yes I think needs all removing
    High quality modulues mastic -
Is that just a higher quality bathroom silicone ? Or can you recommend a brand that would be best to stick to the vinyl floor -
    Thanks Mark

    Hi ,

I use Dow corning C50 , its a good quality mastic with good body and easy to tool .
Once you have cleaned of the existing, wipe with meths and remove with another cloth .
Use a 6 or 8mm profiler , these work best with right angles .Between the wall and floor should be a triangle , if you have other angles you would need to wet tool it which is probably not a diy job .

    Thanks

    Hi thanks for that info
    Will do a
    -
Didn’t have a tool always used finger but just bought a tool today -

However just got to parents house (as I am helping them) and dad had a go at removing the old silicone and has cut a nice cm wide slide of the vinyl floor -
So now have a cm wide gap next to shower tray - still have the piece seems to fit perfectly -

So does anyone know can I glue this slice back in ( if so what glue to use vinyl to vinyl)
As 1cm wide silicone to much cover this mess
    Thanks Mark
