I have a job coming up where kitchen floor is lower than the lounge area and it's all open plàn , are there any issues plying over the concrete to bring up the level to the lounge providing the floor is dry ? The customer has a carpenter doing this then I was going to use.wood screed.over the lot. Cheers
One of my builders has done it that way for years. Glued and screwed down. Been solid & I’ve screeded over it. As long as no damp you will be fine.
I’ve done it quiet a few times over the old hearth if the rest the room is wood Normally dpm And fully bound with wood glue. Seen a few that have failed from the builder Seen a few which haven’t been solid and down for years It’s a risk Just gotta weigh it up
If not DPMd and glued it will rot over time and if the concrete isn't flat the seams of the ply will peak and you have hollow spots all over
Been faced with this a fair amount of times and have been tempted....yet to go through with it though. I always end up throwing a load of a base screed aggregate mix down first to fill it up then a top coat.
Don’t be scared. Nothing a decent wood adhesive and a few screws won’t fix down We do this to build up concrete floors for overlay. As long as it’s dry it will be fine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ive done it, a full ground floor in my last house with 18mm hayrack flooring board. Stuck it down with F3, drilled and plugged it 12" centres, then 6mm ply over the top. That was 20 years ago and it still solid to this day, and the Karndean looks as good as the day i put it down.
