Been reading back through the many threads trying to see which if any brand gets consistently recommended. It sure I’ve come to any conclusions so thought it might be useful to ask the question again especially as brands and products may well have changed over the years the forum has been running.
So I’m after something to use across the whole downstairs of the house and I really don’t want to have to replace it again if possible. Wood planks in a mid to darkish colour (not too grey!).
I’ve been looking at Karndean as that’s what my local installer has, in particular the Van Goch range. Saw some new Distinctive samples yesterday and thought they looked really nice with the embossing matching the pattern but it appears these aren’t the LVT planks that were previously recommended from this manufacturer.
So like many consumers I’m pretty much in the dark here as all the products on the face of it appear pretty similar though I know they are not going to be. I’ve collected a pretty large sample of different planks over the last few weeks and some I like the look of more than others but I’d rather have a product that lasts and gives me no trouble as basically once down any of these are going to look better than what we have right now.

So after that ramble, what brands and lines do the epilepsy who have been fitting this stuff for years recommend and which if any should be kept clear of? TIA.

Karndean for me. Van Gogh is a good choice. The flooring in my avatar is Karndean, fitted it about 20 years ago thereabouts, it still looks as good today .... and the owners have never maintained it with the Karndean kit.

Does mFlor do any stone based LVT?

Are there any mFlor supplier in and around West Yorkshire? I really would like to have one person, supply and fit it all.

This seems promising - is Westex only available to the trade?

Westex vs Karndean Art Select - looking at their specs they seem comparable but the Westex is Pure Virgin PVC (is that a benefit or just a gimmick?)

Are they in the same price bracket?

Westex and the some of the new distinctive products are the same, same parent company called Victoria group.

Yes, firstly look on harvey Maria’s find a retailer section to find a local partner, then look through mflor’s website, the retailer should be able to source products for you.

Found that one of my local suppliers had the new Westex in the showroom. It’s not quite as cheap as I hoped, thought it might be Van Gogh priced but in fact it sits between than and Art Select (it’s £12 a metre more than Van Gogh).

Had a good look at Amtico Spacia today as well along with Vusta which they were pushing as a good product at a slightly cheaper price, anybody have experience of this one?

The westex has a .7mm wear layer and I think the Distinction is 0.55mm so maybe not quite the same product though they do have a very similar appearance so maybe the same manufacturer. Also the distinctive appears to be about two thirds of the price of the Westex, approx £30 v £47 sq. m

Starting to be too much choice!

Where was that price from? I called up and was quoted £35 sq.m for Westex albeit from a company based in Scotland. This is pretty much the same price I have seen some Art Select online. However I really need to find a local supplier as I am looking for a full supply and fit.

    Was that including vat?

I wasn’t really comparing online prices, these were from one of my local showrooms. For reference they are quoting Van Gogh £35, spatia £40 and Westex at £47 I think. The vusta was cheaper, under £30. Not sure what the Art select or Signature came in at but think around £60 (these are above my budget so wasn’t paying much attention). Like most things these prices can ‘flex’ especially if you are having a largish area done but they gave me an indication of how the prices line up between brands.

Personally I don’t like Spacia or anything from Karndean over the past few years they’ve been very inconsistent to the point that we’ve dropped them from the shop.

I've been fitting alot of the QA parquet which looks nice, surprised by it. They have some nice ranges but noticed on certain styles there isn't enough variation in grain/pattern.

Yes with VAT and from a retailer that also has a showroom. However that gives me a base price but then whats the cost I need to add for plywood, glue, fitting costs on top per sq.m. I am not going down the route of supplying the LVT myself - I will need to find a fitter happy to supply and fit it as an all in one.
