How much will I need to pay for a floor sander? Its only to lightly sand screed. I always use a spiked roller, so the finish is flat and only contains the odd lump that wasn't fully mixed. And I only screed once a month or so, but areas are typically about 70m2. Is there a budget one on the market?
If its a 240v machine, just look for a buffer on Ebay. Stick some medium paper to a buffing pad and your away. If your in no rush, you can pick them up cheaply. If its 110v that will be a bit more hard work.
240v would be fine. There are lots of pre-used buffers on Ebay, and I don't mind spending a few hundred quid. As I am totally uneducated with regards to these particular machines, any recommendations of make, spec, power, etc. that can be suggested would be greatly appreciated. Also easily availability of replacement sanding paper.
if you can get one thats a slow speed with the motor mounted over the drive board, the cleaners buffers havnt got the weight and and they polish the screed up instead of sanding
Budget version is called a razor scraper Only about 15 quid and saves you of hours cleaning up all the mess and then having to prime it
Also you tend to find the floor gets polished more than anything unless brand new sanding paper or use a diamond disc or carb disc, I just used mine before it packed up to grind floors prior to fitting, I just block the nibs quickly as most of the time it comes out really well for us
I think everyone has been in the or is in the buffing every screed phase but it just creates a lot of unnecessary mess and extra work for yourself
It can be worth investing in a decent one, as it can be used for more than just sanding screed, i have diamond/pcd ,carborandum, copper discs, brushes and multidisc for mine, they can be quite a useful machine
I think it depends what your doing, and what products your using. Not everyone is working on there own jobs, and has there own choice of screed. We have recently been back on some new build, and they use 300. So, just a quick run over with a scraper, no buffing needed. If your screeding a large area, with a budget screed, and its a pissy coat over, because thats what`s been allowed for, your going to need to run a machine over it first.
Which machine do you use Paul? I use Arditex CL screed most of the time as I get it so cheap. It is always flat with no trowel marks after spiked rolling, but always get small unmixed bits no matter how long we paddle it. There is nothing worse than getting on your knees and sanding or scraping an area nearly 100m2 first thing in the morning. Defo need an upright machine.
Plenty of working time too,did 27 bags on my own a couple of months back, did the full ground floor of a house and it still blended back in nicely to where I'd started
Get a better paddle mate, never heard of anyone having issues with cl being lumpy unless your supplier is giving you old stock that's been stored in the cold and damp.
