Hi guys, I'm a plumber based in Nuneaton near Coventry and occasionally require LVT fitting when doing bathrooms. I probably need 2/3 LVT floors per year so not massive amounts. Current bathroom I'm working on is 3m2. Customer asked for Amtico Signature floor square tiles brick effect so no fancy pattern or border. Subfloor is chipboard flooring which was tiled straight onto but cleaned up nicely. Quoted to 9mm ply feathered and lay floor £600 which is obscene. I had a great floor fitter previously but has retired and any recommendations are unreliable or unrealistically priced.

So any recommendations of local guys by any chance.

Amtico signature ain’t cheap mate. I’d be £450-500 myself.

Have a look on the NICF website and see if any LVT fitters in the area.

That website was the perfect thing I was looking for, thank you. There is 1 fitter 17 miles away so that's my next port of call.

I know Amtico is an expensive product, the fitter told me materials were £280 and the rest labour. I also know there will be a premium for the small scale of the project but £200 per square meter, that must be some real luxury vinyl tiling! I bet that is similar costing to them funky resin floors.

I would probably be around that price. Out of interest, how much would it cost for a ceramic tile floor? Materials grout adhesive, 9mm ply etc?

Based on a ceramic tile that’s a similar price, say £70 per m2

My tiler charges £30 per square meter including adhesive grout and basic trims (chrome metal trims extra)

If he preps a floor for tiling its usually a tile backer board adhesives and screwed to the sub floor

Assuming materials costs are the same I'd be paying £150 to prep and lay floor but he is usually tiling 10m upwards, if he was just in to do a 3m2 job on a floor I wouldn't begrudge the job going up £10 per m so £460 at most. Also if I couldn't get a good suitable floor tile for under £40 per m I'd be looking elsewhere. A good quality tiled floor in there should cost no more than £350 supplied and fitted but we digress.

Customers is considering Ambiance flooring as oppose to the Amtico, how does it compare?

Also on a side note he said his Amtico price was high as they wouldn't split a box, the particular tile customer wants comes in 2.5m, we need maybe 3.3 but need to purchase 5m2. Seems an odd policy from Amtico

Unfortunately manufacturers don't split boxes, i can see why, on the scale they sell stuff, it would be a nightmare to keep track of batches, store, package, etc.
It can make quoting for small areas awkward, when you have to tell the customer they have to buy nearly twice what they need, you can sometimes get around it by ordering full sample tiles, but then you're taking a chance on getting matching shades and sheen etc.

Price seems fine as long as his work is good, I wouldn’t do it for much less otherwise it wouldn’t be worth the time for the profit.

I always thought Amtico sold their stuff by the m2?
(You can tell we only have a commercial account and don't deal with them very often!)
