Hi all, just joined the forum and wanted to send a quick intro... I’m a career changer in my 30’s and really keen to gain a bit more experience in hard flooring. I did the Karndean installers beginners course last year and have been been shadowing a fitter for a couple of days a week over the last few months and now I’m hooked! Problem is he has busted his knee and doesn’t know when he’ll be back. I’m eager to continue my learning and I’ve been going round the local flooring shops to introduce myself - fingers crossed I get a break soon! if anyone knows of any fitters in the Brighton / Sussex area that’s looking for help or willing to take on an apprentice I’d be keen to hear from them! Any advice for people starting out would also be much appreciated! cheers Rob
Although you can't beat experience, it would be worth looking at doing more courses with places like floorskills or fita, just to help you learn that bit extra
Thanks! yeah I was looking at doing a sub floor prep course with floorskills too also I see they do an intensive 4 week course that covers everything - looks good but costs a fair bit so would have to be confident that it’ll be worth doing
A mistake just because you didn't know can be be quite costly, plus with that under your belt, you're probably more likely to be taken on by someone and start earning more money sooner, but yes it is a big investment, good luck
Also do as many free courses as you can. F ball , Ardex , Mapei & Uzin all do free sub floor prep training.
