Hi there I’m new to this forum - I hope it’s okay to post straight away. We had new carpet fitted today. It is Southwold Level wool carpet. We used a local carpet company and fitter. A few issues as follows with photos below: 1. We had a runner and then the landing carpeted. The underpinning of the landing as you look up the stairs really catches your eye as it’s uneven and bumpy. The stairs are old I must admit. Is this normal do you think? 2. The landing has a bar running down the side which is potentially an odd choice? 3. There was a tiny step up from the landing to one of the bedrooms. The measurerer said that the fitter would deal with it appropriately. However, he’s carpeted straight over the lip, which means that the carpet is loose in front of the tiny step and then there’s a dip where the bar is. Would this be the normal choice of how to deal with this issue? Any opinions would be much appreciated as I have no idea about this. Thanks!
It won’t let me upload a photo - I keep on getting an error message. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
Could have been made a whole lot neater on that top step, looks like it's been rushed, fired a load of pins in there and done one. The trim didnt need to be there unless there is no base to the bannister but from what it looks from the picture is he could have tucked it into the gripper so he may have cut it short so used a trim.
When I've had a flush base by the spindles I've always gave my customer the option of either a trim or have it neatly folding under itself and pinned.
Thank you very much - that’s helpful insight. It’s given us confidence to call him back and ask him to redo those things. I’ll also post a picture of the second issue shortly too (I don’t have that picture right now unfortunately). Thanks again!
Yes it definitely needs sorting. If they cant get enough stretch on that landing to allow that bullnose to be redone/tidied up then they'll need to replace the whole landing carpet, seen it many times but some live with it ....I wouldnt!!
Doesn’t look awful, looks more like a rushed job without being there can’t be 100% but it looks fixable to me. Not the end of the world, get on to them and they should pop out to rectify it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Okay so here is more pictures of the landing. I don’t think there is a flush base by the spindles? There looks to be base. I’m not great at these things though.
And here is the bedroom step I mentioned before. It feels strange underfoot as you can tell that there’s little step under the carpet that the carpet just seems to sit on. Is this normal?
A final question - is it normal to tack down carpet this way? I’m guessing yes but would like to just double check with you.
Yep - will do. He’s booked to come back tomorrow. In the meantime I’m just trying to figure out what’s not acceptable and what is normal practice as I really don’t know.
We have a new loft conversion (hence new carpet) and it looks like the top step here is neater. This looks alright to me I think. Much better than the other one...
