Had Sisal fitted a couple of weeks ago, a ridge came up where the glue had not taken properly. The guys came round this morning, pulled it back, applied new glue & put back down but the glue has come through in a few places. The fitter said in 40 years of working he'd never had this happen & was terribly embarrassed & if needs be they will replace the carpet. I'd rather not have to go through that process again, I reckon the small bits will pick off when dry but there are a couple of patches a few inches long where they tried to clean it off & it's smeared into the carpet, is there any way of getting the glue out? Thanks.
Sounds like when they uplifted the sisal, they have parted some of the sisal from the factory applied latex backing which normally stops glue from penetrating through. It is normally impossible or at least impracticable to 'pull back' or uplift adhered sisal or similar floorcovering without compromising it's structural composition. It's a bit like attempting to take wallpaper off the wall without tearing or damaging it, days after it has been hung. Whoever fitted it probably left a section of the floor or underlay with no adhesive. It may have been more sensible to inject glue into this area with a syringe than to attempt to uplift. At least they are accepting their 'cock up.'
Thanks for your response, yeah, I kind of thought that was the reason. I mean, how else would the glue penetrate the backing? It’s a shame but they are a reputable local firm & they will do whatever it takes to make good. I suppose you can’t really ask for more than that.
