Pic 1 Gripper is correctly contoured around door frame, but the outer mitering is a complete and utter waste of manpower and precious time. Pic 2 Second piece of gripper is not following contour of frame. Stupid and unnecessary miter instead. Pic 3 Typical of 95% of carpet fitters up here in the North East. And they all think they are craftsmen.
To the other extreme, and in the case of mitering outer edges of gripperrods as taught in some carpet fitting courses and expected in carpet fitting competitions, this has absolutely no affect whatsoever to the visible finish of the carpet fitting, and is at least in my opinion, completely unnecessary. It could easily add half an hour or more onto your day for nothing more than vanity, hoping the customer will see what you are doing and think you are something special.
I think it’s ok in courses and competitions because it’s got to be to the highest standard. If you don’t do it like that someone else will and proof there is a higher level. Day to day jobs most customers wouldn’t want you to charge extra for that type of fitting. At the end of the day it would take you twice as long so you have to charge. Not all customers tho some would see this and want that standard Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There really is no limit to how crap peoples work can be £2m town house in wimbledon with expensive velour carpet and its prepped like that this one i got from a fitter on fb, he posted this to his own page thinking it was good, hasnt even cut the silicone away.. Last 2 are mine, dont claim to be the best but i believe this is more than adequate for site work which is 95% what i do, ill take longer on a private obviously.
Thanks, always more to learn though. No longer staple doorways or walkways, tape/spray them. Would like to get to floorskills in the next year to do the level 2 carpet course with my eyes set on master fitter
