Hello all, Need a bit of advice here. I have just purchased an engineered wood floor 6mm wear layer of oak total thickness of 21mm. Like a total boffoon I thought that opening the packs would do a better job of acclimatising the flooring, so I have removed all the shrink wrapping thus all the boards have popped out bowed. These have been stacked up tomkeep the weight on them in the room that they will be fitted.The stack is heavy with no bowing, as all the bowed boards are weighted down in the stacks. I realalise that I should have left them in the original packing after researching why some were were bowed. ie opened before acclimatised. Anyone any experience of cock-ups like this. Should they stabilise within the next 10 days if left in a stack? also, if laying the floor floating, should I have thresholds between rooms for expansion? any info would be greatly appreciated
Some boards will bow as soon as they are out of the pack. Just keep them stacked flat now until you fit them. Skirting and furniture will help weight it down also once it’s fitted it will start to settle down. Some products are worse than others, one of the reasons we like to stick wood floors down. Taking them out o the packs is the right thing to do. Otherwise how can the boards acclimatise to an environment that the packaging is preventing them from equalising with? You do need to ensure that you are acclimatising the boards to a suitable environment. The boards will be usable and straighten out as they are fitted. It only becomes awkward when the boards bow up at the ends rather than in the middle. Most boards have some bowing in them so unless the bow is huge they should be fine.
Not with engineered. The boards will acclimatise through cardboard or a little shipping wrapper. If you take them out too early they will end up like bananas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks for the reply's, I did initially think the same as Angry Andy and therefore removed them from the polythene shrink wrap. Only having done this I had second thoughts and read that its best to leave in the original wrapping. around 65% of them are flat or have a minimal curvature. The worst arch up in the middle by 30mm over a 2.4 meter length (when positioned oak side up). The product is overall 21mm thick with a 6 mm wear layer of oak. Should I be worried as its being fitted floating on an asphalt floor. Just don't want to end up with a bouncy floor. I have kept them well weighted in 3 stacks of 70mm high. The floor is going down next Monday and I have to move them into the kitchen. I will sort out the worst and put them at the bottom of the stacks when moved.

Not true. The flooring need to be fully exposed to the environment or it simply will not reach equilibrium.
We mainly fit V4 wood flooring so stick to their guidelines. I’m pretty sure we were given the same advise on the BWFA course too. All companies are different tho so I’m sure it will be each to their own Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
