Little update, whilst i was in america last year i found some little plastic things called delrins, they fit onto the front of a wall trimmer and stops the marking of skirtings. Cant find them overe here, but theyre like 50p each ,stuck it on with gorilla glue and its been on since

Always straight blade for me and back cut, it's how dad taught me and also my uncle. Guess it's the family curse! Ha
But we are old school, it's in my opinion the best way as you can get much more stretch on a carpet hook on and then fit.
Works for me but I use hook on a lot of contract carpets that are stuck straight down.

Delrin is just a material (vape mouthpieces etc). So, i'm guessing there may well be some out there somewhere...

Always straight blade. For everything too. I side cut carpets and face cut vinyl without ever marking anything. I can’t really get on with hook blades, for me only really good for gel back straight to floor or cutting up old carpets
