Hi guy's! New to the forum ‍♂️

I'm a carpenter and joiner by trade and wondered if I could pick some of your knowalable experiences.
Now I have installed a fair few hardwood floors in my career so far but not used LVT before.

This is for my own bungalow that I have renovated and and will be using Amtico or Karndean oak.
The original sub floor is timber joists which I made sure were anchored down and I even went to the extent of resin fixing the existing plates down to the concrete oversite to reduce any chance of movement.
Inbetween the floor joists there is an underfloor heating system in a biscuit mix and 18mm P5 chipboard on top which was all glued down with lumberjack flooring adhesive (for use with underfloor heating) and spax screws.

Wanted to see what the general consensus was for prep prior to fitting the LVT.
Now I know you can't lay LVT directly onto chipboard so would it be best to use 5.5mn flooring ply glued and screwed or apparently you can use a mapie primer and flood the floor 3mm minimum with there restoration screed direct onto chipboard?

For flatness the majority of its pretty good but there are a few low spots of say no more than 3mm.

    All reccomendations welcomed.

    Many thanks

    Phil

Use 6mm SP101 ply (screwed every 100mm on the edges with 150mm centres) and then prime and screed with a suitable compound if needs be, to get rid of any undulations

If it’s dry and very flat you could use sp101 ply, feather and fit to that with VG or Quickstep Livyn. Amtico will need to have a full screed over the plywood.

Hi guys thanks for your input really appreciate it. Two last questions on the prep.

What adhesive would you reccomend for sticking ply down to chipboard? I know lumber jack also do a spreadable flooring adhesive suitable for underfloor heating too but welcome reccomendations?

Also with feathering compound over new plywood do I need to prime before hand and do I need to leave say a 2mm gap between boards and fill with compound?

    Thanks a lot guys

Yes leave a 2mm gap between the joints before feather, and don’t glue just screw chipboard doesn’t like glue.

Is the Amtico click smart any good ? I'm thinking might be an option? Not sure I'm a fan of just screwing ply down with no glue I've been on jobs were they have done this with screws at 100mm centres any small gaps you still get squeeks and creeks here and there.

If you want to guarantee no squeaks and creaks you need to rip up that chipboard and put down a cement floor
