Hi new here wondering if anyone would have any advice. I have engineered parquet to be glued down on top of self levelling compound. Is it necessary to seal/prime before laying the floor? Or could it bond fine without? Any input appreciated thanks

Check what the adhesive manufacturer says but it doesn’t usually hurt to prime. Also check the primer as some need to be mixed with water

I take it you couldn't find a cheaper adhesive!

5500 is a solvent adhesive and I wouldn't recommend using it as A) It will stink the place out, B) It's rigid and only suitable for small format flooring.

Look at using an MS Polymer adhesive, they are hazard free, virtually odourless, flexible, easy to clean up & easy to use, and if the subfloor is sound you shouldn't need a primer.

On the other hand the pubs are closed and 5500 will get you high as a kite!!
