    THIS. Because, as we found out the other day - in England and Wales, if a carpet has been installed for over 6 years, and fails - even if still in the guarantee period - it's all written off as being over the allowed time to claim...

    A carpet manufacturer - it's only England and Wales. Can't remember the law it relates to but i'll find it....

    Consumer Rights 2015 (Sale Of Goods '79/Supply Of Goods & Services '82) - Scotland only gets 5 years....

    I was told by cormar all carpet manufacturers only have to give 2 year warranty. After 2 years they wash their hands with it

    So I’ve just done some reading and it appears the 6 years is broadly right.

    That said if a manufacturer promises a longer guarantee (15 year wear or lifetime shading) then that supersedes the statutory rights you get in law...

    They may try and wash their hands of it but I suspect of a consumer has proof of their promises from the time of purchase it would be legally binding.
