We went to independent carpet company and spent over 6k on carpets and flooring we specifically asked for a hard wearing stair carpet due to living in townhouse. Runner carpet chosen after recommended by sakes person and paid additional for carpet banded. It was fitted 4 weeks ago but already signs of sections unraveling and loose threads. We do not wear shoes and only used hose hoover. Carpet is a wool and tencal mix 6 mm. we check manufacturers website where carpet states only suitable for bedrooms and living room with medium use. We have contacted carpet shop and asked them to come out to look any other advice.
Unfortunately, you've ended up with a loop pile. Loop piles and clawed animals don't really mix - add in the fact that even the manufacturer hasn't claimed it's suitable for stairs and suddenly everything is coming together... or coming apart in your carpet's case...
The retailers will have to replace your carpet with one that is suitable for stairs. I wouldn't be asking for another loop pile though. If it states that it's not suitable for stairs then show them that then they can't really wiggle out of it but don't be surprised if they try
Thanks all hoping we can sort it out with them although haven’t replied to email today. So frustrating as we spent ages discussing what we needed - they were fully aware stairs and dogs.
They have finally come back to us after chasing 2 weeks later and are stating the dogs or a high heel (I haven’t worn heels for months) caused it and they have offered to send an independent carpet assessor any advice? We have contacted the manufacturer to clarify if this carpet is suitable for stairs and for pets both of which we specifically mentioned at time of purchase. We have only corresponded via email to ensure everything is documented as think we may need to go to small claims court
