Hi, I would like to ask your help. I have just had Amtico laid down and I noticed that there are big gaps between skirting board and Amtico. Is it normal that at some places it is over 10 mm? It is an old house but I though they even it out with mdf flooring before which I know they used before laying down Amtico. The flooring at some places doesn’t lay close / flush to the skirting boards and you can push things into that large gap. It just looks so unfinished. Or is it a natural thing to happen?
And an other thing is that they used a weird filler material ( they said it is caulk) on top of skirting boards to seal off the gap between walll and skirting board. It was laid two days ago and it is still pliable and soft like playdough , and it is down in a very untidy manner with lot of gaps. They are coming back on Monday to look at my complaint and tidy up the sealant and change some damaged skirting boards. Should I complain about the large gaps or is it something which is natural with Amtico ? It just looks so weird and my friend’s Amtico is laid flush against skirting board. Also should I ask for a different sealant? This looks like it will get dirty quickly, my friend has a neat silicon stripe. Also in a 3 metre long room they didn’t use a one length skirting board but patched it up from either 2 or 3 pieces.
And an other observation is that if I push on some floorboards they seem to be loose, not glued down . They rise up a bit and can be pushed back. Thank you very much for your help.

I can’t see the pics for some reason but it sounds awful. Old houses have a lot of level issues and solid walls so the skirting needs fixing well and scribing in to the floor or skirts first them LVt flush up against it. Caulk is used at the top of the skirting to finish it but doesn’t sound like they have done it correctly

Can see the pics now. It looks like they may have left a Costco cake behind your skirting in that last pic. Terrible workmanship. The floors not flat. The skirting too small to scribe anyway.
After the boarding went down they really needed to use a set levelling compound to level out the floor. Not just a few bags either. Expensive to get that floor flat.

Thanks for your reply. He is coming back tomorrow to look at my complaint. Do you think is there anything that they could do about these gaps and rectify the problem? Relaying the skirting board or levelling out the floor, which I doubt that they will pick up again. I am not an expert with lvt flooring, it just looks uneven and weird for me. Thank you very much for your help

Apart from re doing it all amd getting it flat from the start. Fill the bottom of the skirting with caulk. Not sure I would trust these guys to do it tho looking at the mess they made of the top of the skirting

Another example of awful fitting
That last pic is missing a cadburys flake to complete the '99'!

Should have been fibre screeded on top of the ply if the floors dip that bad.

I'm assuming they fit the skirting after laying the floor, i prefer to fit skirting first, the fitting takes a bit longer, but you're not left with gaps

Same here, customers assume I prefer to have them off but I tell them to fix them on as it'll be a better finish 99% of the time

Caulk comes to the rescue in myriad projects around the house, from outdoor maintenance to indoor decorating. What makes this humble material so good at what it does? The rubbery substance, available in a variety of formulations, including silicone, latex,
