Hi, I was hoping for a bit of guidance as I've never really bought a carpet before other than a cheap ones because I wasn't in my forever home. So I've been looking about and I'm completely overwhelmed. I'm looking to carpet three bedrooms, a landing and stairs with a budget of maximum £20 per square metre (hopefully less) for the carpet extra for underlay and fitting. Firstly, I dislike deep pile carpet or anything that shows vacuum lines or tread marks where it goes flat, we are also getting a dog soon so I need something I can clean. I'm wanting it to last around 10 years as this house is going to be long term. After reading here I'm leaning towards Victoria heartlands (although they don't seem to have a colour that works) and I'm worried the pile will flatten. Anybody got any suggestions for that price range? Thanks
Man-made carpets are a good option at the price point, the downside as you've pointed out is that they will flatten faster than wool. Regular vacuuming will help as well a good quality underlay. Heartlands or Freedom Extra, also from Victoria, would be my 2 go to ranges for you in that bracket.
Thank you, i'll have a look at that. Do you think that's a ok budget to get a quality long lasting carpet? I looked at brockway but they seem to cost a lot more.
It really depends on your personal definition of “quality, long lasting”. Is it a reasonable carpet for the money that will last an acceptable amount of time? Absolutely! Will it stand up to a busy 4 person household with pets and everyone wearing shoes and still look good in 25+ years? No not at all. I personally have Heartland at home and it’s been down nearly 4 years and still looks decent. So I’d say it’s good for it’s money.
Brockway are fantastic but more expensive as they are wool carpets. I don’t believe they offer a man made carpet.
Thanks for replying everyone. I order some samples from Victoria. The heartlands although nice is too thick for me. I did order the tutor twist too which is a 80/20. Anyone know what price I'd be looking at with that? Also with that be easy to clean? The house when we moved in had something called a genoa supreme which I really like because it's a short pile and feels nice but cannot find it anywhere. Thanks
