Hi, doing young daughters bedroom floor with some 2.5mm LVT plank, she's only 9 and my teenage son has room underneath, (the lvt is because I know she'd spilll paint, pens anything on carpet!). 1950's floorboards in great condition but going to ply it today and just wondered, anyone tried putting 2mm foam under the ply for a bit of footstep sound deadening? Cheap sort from screwfix and it's Saturday! Going to screw it down 100mm centres and go over with stopgap feather finish as needed and use F46 PS adhesive. Epic fail or stroke of genius? Thanks, Mark

Be better off plying the floorboards then looking for Softlay fleece DB19 or Regupol 4515 db18 and using the directly underneath the lvt, be more costly than 2mm foam but would work better

Thanks Adam, your fast professional reply is appreciated, yes I should have done my homework much sooner but I've got this weekend earmarked for it (by the wife!) and daughters in the little box room and half moved in already so the pressure is on! My concern was flex from the foam but at 2mm most would probably be lost in deviations so just wondered if anyone tried it before, thanks.

Just in case anyone else has my silly idea of lining the floor with 2mm foam as a bit of sound deadening don't bother, the screws pull the ply down so you will have hundreds of shallows to feather out, not worth the grief, I've decided to just board it over and hope she doesn't jump about too much (there's a big fluffy rug going in the middle anyway. So moral of the story is, plan ahead and do not have inspirations on a Friday evening before staring the Saturday. Anyone need a roll of 2mm foam :)
