Hi, what is the score with fitting costs/quotes from retail independant shop to private customer?? What should i be expecting?? Carpet, underlay, gripper 2x door bar. Etc 12sqm with one heat seam required?
What carpet are you looking at, what area is it for, how many people in the house, pets, children, etc? What is the subfloor, wood or concrete? There’s a lot of variables that will affect the price in terms of the quality of materials required. That said I would budget between £250-£500 depending on the quality of materials and installer you hire. Might be a bit less if you go cheap or a bit more if you go high end. Best advice is to find a great installer who can guide you on the products based on your home and needs.
Bedroom. Stripped bare, ready for carpet Good, sound chipboard suspended sub-floor. No kids, but 2xdogs-not sure what rellevance this has? In the running at present: Cormar woodland heathers 50 oz Cormar inglewood Hudson & brooklyn 50 oz Quotes between 550 - 580. Seemed very reluctant to break the quote down, but what has miffed me is they want to charge for carpet sized underlay. When part of the room is 2.1x1.4 which needs no carpet. I understand i need to buy carpet and have waste. Is this normal practice.??
Those prices sound about right. For underlay that’s not normal anywhere I’ve worked or for myself these days. Sometimes it works out the same but often a bit less especially if the room isn’t square. Sounds like lazy estimating. If you’re not happy find another company/installer.
We be for the inglewood with a £6m2 underlay , grippers and 2 standard trims and fitting we would be approx £402
Can i be a bit cheeky, and ask how you would get to this price.... Thats a fair bit cheaper then ive been quoted....
Prices can vary a lot, depending on what area your in. Rent, rates etc in citys can be far more than rural areas. Same for fitting, rates can vary a lot across the country, as does the cost of living.
Too true.... This is country side, town, not sure tbh. Both quotes are similar in price. I have no issue with paying the going rate, but when i find out they are trying to charge me for underlay i dont need, it kinda makes me start digging.....then the trust is gone!
That’s including fitting gripper and underlay. We charge £6m2 fitting these days. Sometimes more if it’s a bit of a pain
maybe they havent broke the price down as its basically just priced to earn a certain ammount, i do that on some jobs. for instance if they changed the sqm of supplied underlay, they basically just want to earn a certain ammount and itd have no affect on the price they charge. id be: Cormar inglewood £16sqm Fitting £6sqm Cloud 9 10mm connoisseur £6sqm £10 for the seam and probably chuck on another £25 for diesel and bars/gripper. I am however not a big shop or a company that has to pay a fitter, so prices will vary as well as the finish and skill level etc. its a minefield
Thanks Guys, it seems your both clear and concise with your workings, on a par too! i expected a local independent shop to have been the same. Obvs. too much to ask. Stan, dont suppose you are south west?? The quote i had was more expensive on the carpet, more expensive on the fitting, underlay was more expensive - although when i questioned this they had put a fitting cost on the underlay, on top of the carpet fitting cost. Not sure where the rest of the costs were added on etc.... i appreciate everyone has to make money, and shops do have hideous overheads etc. i wouldnt of even questioned the quote tbh if i hadnt of asked about using some spare underlay left over from a previous job!!
