A friend of mine has just started for a new company, working labour only. They want him to sign a contract, and in it is a retention clause of 5% released after 3 months. I know its standard practice in the industry to hold 5%, 2.5% released on PC and normally 2.5% after 12 months, but does anyone else have this on labour only work. Ive only ever been told by 1 company they hold 5% and told them to poke it ! My experience with retentions, is they are hard work to get back.
There a big firm, with lots of guys on, but I think they are struggling for guys at the moment. I just wondered if that was the norm these days. We only really do our own work, and sub to maybe 2-3 companies to fill the gaps. You should see the contract, its a joke !
Sub contracting is a nightmare. Both times I’ve shown them to a solicitor they said walk away from them. Totally geared up to shaft the sub contractor from all angles. Maybe worth the risk if your a big firm and you have mouths to feed then you may need these contracts but no good for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yep I agree. One of the few firms we do work for, asked me to sign a contract. I phoned the main guy there and told him this would be our last day on site, as I won`t be signing anything. He said, just crack on and forget it.
