I've an LVT adhesive question I was wondering if anyone can help with please...

F46 states it can be used on flooring grade chipboard directly (assuming sound, level, fully supported, primed etc). F48 doesn't specifically mention chipboard. Does anyone know if there's a reason that F46 is appropriate but F48 wouldn't be on chipboard?

I know that many people will always recommend overboarding with ply, but given I have a brand new fully supported, perfectly level, P5 floor even with the joints filled and feathered, I'm prepared to use that especially when F46 says this is an option. It's also my own development so up to me to fix it if it does cause any problems.

    Thanks!

Maybe because you can let f46 set but f48 has to be wet laid? You could call fball and ask them

That would be suitable for carpet tiles Not LVT

6mm ply and f48 used as a wet set

If you make assumptions and cut corners you will have costly problems As will if you DIY it

So I've spoken to the adhesive manufacturer. F46 and F48 plus can be used directly onto flooring grade chipboard after priming for LVT. They would recommend ply though over a floating t&g chipboard floor.

    So,
The reason you really should use ply, is because then you have something which can be demounted. If something does go wrong fitting directly to your brand new sub-floor, you can (and most likely will) damage it upon trying to rectify the issues - and when it comes to change the floor covering in the future.

There are reasons we have codes of practice for installation that most fitters follow - much like builders supposedly do...

Just because something is possible doesn't make it the best solution Manufacturers will always big up there products Anything is possible Nothing is a certainty
