Hi. I am looking for a bit of advice and wondered if anyone out there can help? Have been advised by a local independant carpet shop that it is impossible to put a join in a wool loop carpet. Advised to the point that he flatly refused to sell me the carpet. The room is 5.8m long and 6.5m wide, so will need a join. Is it possible to get a satisfactory join in a wool loop? Carpetright Thaxted is the current choice, as nothing else is quite the right colour.

Of course you can join a wool loop carpet. Some carpets are not suitable for joining but that’s very rare. Some fitters joins are so bad they should be done.

Thanks for the reply. I couldn’t quite believe it when the guy just said “No, I’m not selling you that”. He had no alternative ideas and I had no option but to leave. Obviously my next question is how do I go about finding the best local fitter. Do I just go with Carpetright’s fitter? Or find an experienced local independent?

Local independent every time, if they don't think something is suitable they will always come up with a better alternative and they will also charge you properly, none of this free fitting if you buy the underlay, and charging you delivery for a carpet that the fitter has to bring with him anyway.

You need to find a trusted fitter. Someone that’s been recommended or a nicf member would be a good start. You never know who your gonna get from carpet right or how long they will be there

Avoid carpet right fitters like the plague. Look on the NICF website for fitters or go to a local independent carpet shop

Thanks for the replies everyone - much appreciated. The original salesman had just put the phone down on a customer that had complained about a bad join and he was going to have to replace the carpet and sell it as a remnant. Any ideas what Country Living Thaxted Twine might be masquerading as?

Wool Berbers are OK to Join on the width , But not End to End
On the size of the room you have mentioned you would need ether one join down the side, that would mean buying lots of waste carpet
Or several sections on the side that are joined end to end to form a long strip to be seamed the side of the main body of carpet
the latter would not look good as Berbers don,t look good joined end to end

So you can have Thaxted carpet fitted
but how you choose to have it laid and how much waste is left over is up to you
    hope this helps
PS not all Carpet right fitters are bad fitters
