Hi, New here, but as I'm getting alot of work done on house I'm finding the need to reach out due to the level of crap I'm seeing! Take a look at the pics, just had this carpet laid on stairs/landing/bedrooms. However as you can see, the finish on the stair edges leaves alot to be desired. This is the 2nd install they did as the 1st , the edges frayed after a few weeks so this was thier solution. Surely there must be a better way?
Oh wow. Is this a carpet fitter or someone out of the local paper that does everything? Or has the apprentice been let lose? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hey Merit... Its a local carpet company, been around for years ! They're coming back on Thursday and I was hoping to endow myself with some knowledge so I can make sure its done correctly !
So how should they be doing it? 1st time they cut it exact and it frayed, 2nd time they took out a loop/thread and then bent over the back so it wouldn't fray..
Yes they should be running down the loop so that it doesn’t frey but it looks like your staircase may be narrower at the back of the tred and wider at the front. They really need to cut the carpet over size and turn/crimp the sides. Or they could gripper all the sides but that’s not really necessary Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Personally if it’s a loop I tend to gripper the sides on stairs for a tuck ensuring a neat finish with no risk of fraying or a row collapsing. It can be done without gripper but that is shockingly bad workmanship.
Thanks for the info guys, appreciated... I suspected the stairs might not be square , the gripper on sides sounds like a possible solution
Well that didnt go well, shop sent someone to take a look, told me thats the best that can be done... Can someone recommend an independant 'expert' I can use (essex area) to come and expert/produce report ? Also any good suppliers/fitters in my area ?
Thanks Simon.. Its such a shame as the shop has been there donkeys years.. Out of interest, the shop offered to fit a 'twisted' wool to replace the stairs/landings, but said not prepared to do bedroom aswell. The bedroom fit is fine, but I wouldnt want diff. carpets to the stairs!
I'd be telling them you taking it further because its clearly not fitted correctly and you didn't get what you paid for. They can't seriously think that's acceptable customer service
