Going to take out the carpet and underlay from my small office (4.5msq) and put down some 6mm ply and Amtico Form LVT. We've just had the downstairs done and I'm using the extra pack and other bits that were left over. I want to incorporate a soundproof layer somewhere in the mix. Can anyone advise on the best approach? I've read around in a few threads and the recommendation seems to be: - 6mm ply, then; - regupol stuck down with adhesive (saw F44 fball mentioned by some guys for the adhesive) - then the LVT stuck down to the regupol once it's strengthened - should this be done with PS adhesive or could I finish what's left of the HT adhesive from the other job? Tks
Oh, and is there any need to screed? I guess that depends on the levels, if there was a need to screed where would it go, between the ply and regupol, or between the regupol and LVT?
What about adhesives / glue / screws? special stuff needed? What's the best thing to use to feather edge? It's only a small space. I'm not a professional
6mm use ring nails Ardex feather or fball do a Micro coat mini bag Use f44 or similar to glue regupol to ply Then a ps to glue LVT down
Cool thanks. I presume you have some kind of mechanical gun for your ring nails. I only have a hammer... is it still advisable to use ring nails with a hammer?
Yes it will be fine. I used to hand nail classrooms back in the day. You want they flush or in a bit. Or use screws. feather finish the whole area.
Just found a pack of F Ball Stopgap Stopgap Micro Rapid for £30 online, it's an 8kg pack and they say it'll cover 7.5msql @ 1mm. 1mm seems crazy thin.. isn't it just going to crack straight off? Is it better to go for a thicker application? I could probably get 2mm out of the pack quite easily given the floorspace is about 4msq.
Watched the video on their website. They mix it with water, same as the others. Looks like he filled screw holes with it dry though. Presumably that's what you mean when you say scratch.
