    Hi All,

Thank you for any help and advise in advance

I'm looking to have a new carpet in the lounge - Wife prefers a twist to a loop for lounge - Plain or Heather maybe a light pattern

So we looked at a lot of 80/20 type carpets - There are so many brands out there all looking for my £, So now i'm really confused which brand to go for since they all seem to price at similar prices Seen something we like in

Brockway - Orien Twist or dimensions heather
Cormar - Natural Berber Twist or Woodland Heather Twist
    Kingsmead
    Cavalier
    Victoria
    Hugh Mackay

Most of them we can find something in our price range - but i tired reading around and now not sure which brand - Also within same brand you get 80/20 mix but the mix is different materials - i'm not sure how that affects the carpet

The other questions was - should we base choice on weight or something else - i was looking at 50oz

The other Brand i did consider was Penthouse - which is actually from same town as where i am - but i read some bad reviews

Or do i forget all them look for a roll end of the higher brands like Westex and Brintons - then it means finding a fitter .....

Add to the mix differing opinions on underlay to use -

This is why quality flooring shops exist, go have a chat and they will explain and show the differences between the mid range products which will all do a perfectly good job for the price and that you have listed, or buy better quality wool and man made fibre (anything with 80% wool/20% Nylon will be a premium Twist). Personally, if in budget, I don't think you can beat the quality of York Wilton Twist for the money from Ulster Carpets.

A 50oz in the mid range products is great but Ulster York Wilton Twist will out perform them all despite the slightly lower pile weight because of the better quality yarn used in manufacture and because its woven on a Wilton loom rather than a standard tufting machine like 99% of carpets nowadays.

Woven will be the best wearing carpets. Ulster, brintons etc..
    Surprised at penthouse bad reviews?
    Brockway very good backing
Cormar sometimes wear well but the backing is very unreliable and it could start delaminating after a few years.

Thanks for the replies - I do realise woven ideas better but most just seem out of budget - an option maybe if I can find them as roll end

Which is why the companies mention have something within budget around the 30 sq/m price

I am visiting a flooring shop - but how do you tell if they quality or just trying to sell you what they make most profit on - this so why I posted here to try and understand from peoples experiences

But I will look at ulster - but in my case the misses will say it’s too expensive :)

I would buy with confidence from any of those manufacturers you have already looked at, as mentioned, Cormar have a bit of a reputation in the trade for delamination but then again they produce a huge amount of carpet.

Cormar's primo grande is one of my best sellers, never had an issue with them so far....apart from the odd one that has a fishy smell backing o_O

For wool I use either tomkinson or penthouse but tbh havnt done alot of wool lately

    Re: Cormar

That's the problem with mass sale of anything.

You always get a small percentage of a product that will have an issue, the more sold of it, the larger the number of instances that small percentage becomes. How often do people go out of their way to give positive reviews etc when something goes right? Whereas they will almost always give a negative review should something go wrong...

But yeah, from our experience at the shop, Penthouse almost always does really well...

You make a good point there where people won't ever think this product done really well therefore lets give it a good review

But people will complain when they have paid a fair bit per sq/m - you can understand if it was so called cheap carpet

Cormar backing is just terrible. So many other backings that are sooo much better. Telenzo one of the best secondary backings IMO. Westex, penthouse, Brockway, victoria all good. Cormar is on a level with the naff wholesale Carpets. Carpet right style. Like balta. Yuk

You should purchase flooring from a reputable company that has been in business for many years and has a high rating from customers who have shared their experiences. At the very least, it is now possible to learn about the quality of a product. When I was looking for flooring, I learned a lot of things, and as a result, I was able to make the best decision for me.

I must be getting all of the small percentage then. Constantly shit backings, and i mean more often than not. Its got wayyyy to much latex on it, its always delaminating. Its an absolute nightmare to fit when its as stiff as it is.

The mix composition is not a bad idea, But there is some problem like nylon and polyester has a high risk of pilling. Because synthetic fiber pilling resistance is bad for its short staple length. Sometimes its colorfastness also can be bad. But after all mixed composition carpet isn't bad.
