Everything is possible. If they can build a pyramid 5000 years ago I’m sure someone can get your floor flat. It’s more the extent of the work. Plus materials were much better quality and cheaper back then

Thanks for reply. The company is coming out on Friday, so I'll know what they're prepared to do to fix it I'll post some more pics later.

Just noticed you're based in Wirral, I'm in Southport. Wish I'd have known that before!

Yes the floor could have been made alot more level than it is but without taking up the floorboards, jigging about with joists etc then it would never be 100% level.

I remember doing a terrace house front room that was similar to yours with that hump that originally had laminate over it, looked awful and kept gapping/coming apart so the customer wanted stickdown lvt and went with Amtico.

I had to part ply 18mm from both sides going down to 6mm in the middle so I could flow I good coat of fibre based screed over it (deeper in the middle and feather on both sides on top of the 18mm . Worked out better than I thought it would being honest.

It was an expensive prep but was a huge improvement.

Would have been happy to pay extra for the prep if I was given the option. Is this fixable in your opinion?

It is fixable yes but without seeing the whole floor I wouldn't guess on to what extent of work required.
Could be complete 'start from scratch', could be taking that middle section out but judging by the pictures it doesn't look like it'll be an easy fix without taking floorboards up and messing around with joists....who knows!!

That hearth looks like it's buried more than the 5.5m play surrounding it though

This is bang on basically. Also we’ve only seen pics of the worst bit. The whole floor could need more prep work

If the void under the floor was deep enough and you could access it from another room, you may be able to drop the middle joists slightly to level it out, unfortunately this would not guarantee not having to redo the floor, as by removing the hump, the surface area of the subfloor would decrease and may result in the ply popping up.

    Hi
Some more pics of floor being installed, which fitter took. Really frustrating he didn't point it out, even at this stage? Can anyone advise on options pls. Company coming out on Fri + want to know where I stand.

Can they level floor even if it means using different height ply in different parts of room?
If they're not prepared, do I need to get independent assesment?

I've taken pics of cuts, gaps that need replacing.

    Appreciate any advice.

    Thanks for replies. Update.

Arranged for them to come out Fri, guy turns up today 'just passing' + tells my wife no problem we'll replace border first thing Fri, but can't do anything about hump.

He knew I wasn't at home today.

Only just noticed them last 4 pics you posted o_O
    ....wow......just wow!!!!

You've paid half so far for a job that ain't worth the half. Don't be paying them a penny more that's for sure....as to what happens next well this could be the start of a long process unless you can live with that awful hump. I know I couldn't.

How did you pay them the half?
    Credit card?

Seriously though, how can a fitter walk away from that job thinking it's OK? Baffles me

Thanks for reply. Yes credit card.

He came around today when he knew I was in work (I'd arranged to meet Fri) and told my wife he's happy to fix border! Will I need to get some kind of independent assesment, if he's not prepared to redo it?

Shocking that. Do you know what adhesive they used Peter ? Looks like they have laid the plywood the wrong way as well. It should go in the opposite direction to the floorboards.

Spoke to him today Darren + he said he'd take up some boards in front of fire + use compound to level it up. That's still mean floor in rest of room is uneven?

Told him I'm getting independent advice + entire floor needs levelling + redoing. Said he'd get back to me next week.
