    Hi all,

Want to purchase good quality LVT for my house. Visited many stores and have some queries.

    - Glue down or Click which is better? And for what reason
    - Looking at Kardene & Quickstep. Which is better
    - Is thick of the wear layer matter
    - Where can we buy LVT at a reasonable cost
    - How can I find a good fitter
    - Is it rare to have stair with carpet while all house is in LVT?

New comer to UK and really puzzle for the flooring. Thanks in advance!

Glue down will see a preference on here, as I'm sure we've all been bitten by click. Though in certain situations it does have it's uses - but usually only if the entire floor is supremely flat and you have no windows and the day of the week starts with a Q...

I prefer Karndean and Victoria over most other products - but that's just as a salesman.

Wear layers do help. I usually attempt to get people on .55 wear layer and above.

Best bet is to go to a local independent, get them to quote on supply and fit. There are a lot of issues with provenance of products at the moment, so making sure everything is legit and all from one place makes the process a little more streamlined and covered when it comes to guarantees etc.

We do a lot of jobs where the stairs and landing are in carpet and everything else is in LVT.

Most people with hard flooring on the flat areas, have carpet on the stairs, but you could put lvt on the stairs or even a combination of lvt and carpet. I wouldn't be too concerned about the thickness of the wear layer, as long as the floor is smooth, with no high spots, you're unlikely to wear any of them out in a domestic property

Finally got my house after 9 months waiting. Some queries:

Received a few quotations, for a 110M2 house to be laid with Kardean Van gough Glue down (Lounge, Kitchen, Hall, WC, Land and Risers on the Stairs, 4 bed rooms with one ensuite, Bathroom & stairs tread with carpet), the total cost is about 11700 (including removal of old flooring & Deep fill Hallway and WC to bring level with Kitchen), is there a reasonable cost?

The current flooring is mainly carpet with the exception of Hallway with hard wood & kitchen with tile.

Moreover, for the hallway, is there way (other than of deep fill) to fix the gap between skirting & flooring and door frame & flooring after removal of the hard wood?
For the Kardean quotations, no company splits clearly the material & installation cost, is that a general practise in UK?

For quick step, a company quotes the cost with detail breakdown is about 8280.... The cost difference is quite a lot ....

    Thanks in advance!

I've done similar to raise hallway/WC to same level as kitchen diner where I put ufh down and used 10mm backer boards and one coat of screed

You have to raise the floor somehow. Deep fill levelling is pretty much standard. Quickstep balance is cheaper then karndean Van Gogh.
    Most quotes will vary

Thank you for your reply. At flooringsupplies web site, the cost of Quickstep LVT balance glue and Karndean Van Gogh glue down is very close although the flooring dealer cost may be different.

For the quickstep quotation, the flooring cost is about 3506 whereas for Kardean vendors, they haven't stated in the quotation. I just wonder whether the 40% cost increase in comparing Quick Step and Kardean flooring material only is justified. Since I am a new immigrant in UK and is not good in English, I am worrying that I may be quoted in a higher side.

I wouldn’t think all that cost is down to the flooring. There must be something else quoted differently

    Hi Gary,

Them quotes do seem excessive, I have just fit LVT in my home (100 metres) for less than £3k.- managed to fit it myself so saved a fortune on fitting fees! Have you shopped around rather than using the big brands/shops

LVT flooring is a high-quality product that is manufactured form best quality materials. It is made from wood fiber, natural latex, and other ingredients. This flooring is a type of flooring that is ideal for wet and high-moisture areas. It is made from vinyl that is durable and resistant to scratches, stains, and other damage. It can be installed on a variety of surfaces, including concrete, wood, and tile.

Your response does not answer the original question, is largely in correct and pointless(again).

LVT is "sometimes" a high quality product, and it is not made of the random ingredients that you think it is. It's made principally of polyvinyl chloride resins (PVC) which is where the the 'Vinyl' comes from in the product's generic description" Luxury Vinyl Tiles".

Now if you are going to give us the benefit of your wisdom at least fact check it first and make it relevant to the actual question. Alternatively, and preferably, don't bother. Please.
