Hello everyone, I have a 1985 house with a floating subfloor on the ground floor. Concrete + 50mm insulation + 18mm chip on top As I have said, the chip is floating and bounces terribly, around 10mm in areas, and there are high and low points (i.e. high points where the chip meets, and low points after the front and rear doors where moisture has presumably entered. Previously, there was a very low quality carpet throughout, so could have let a lot of water through. Yesterday, 12mm laminate and fibreboard all arrived but the play was just too much, and now sadly I have to look at making remedies to the subfloor. Please can I have some advice here? I think my options are: 1 - remove subfloor and thick screed + membrane (more expensive and inconvenient as it would have to go through to the kitchen), I'd rather not do this. 2 - remove chip and cut out gaps in the insulation and place batons and rescrew chip down (new chip, perhaps 22mm) 3 - screw ply on top of the existing chip with the hope that there isn't much bounce (there will be a little I expect), say 18mm ply. As the ply is 8'x4' it should also remove the high and low (wavy) points. Ideally if option 3 would work that would be the least inconvenient for me as I am only a DIYer and I do not want to put a great deal of money into it. Appreciate your thoughts/advice, thanks. Alex
We did this a few years ago with great results. Screw down 12mm or 18mm ply over it. Massively improved it. Or remove chipboard completely and have a liquid screed pumped in.
