Hello all, First post here as just had karndean knight tile in pale limed oak herringone fitted throughout our downstairs. I've already called the fitters back once as a few areas were sticking up or not even stuck down at all. We had floorboards in the lounge/kitchen and then concrete in the bathroom. I've attached some pictures but where there used to be a fireplace a rectangle in front was not floorboarded and they used a compound followed by something else to match this to the 6mm plus they laid throughout. My concern is it feels like when you walk over it you are standing in hard lumps, and in certain lights it looks very bumpy. These bumps then cause the herringone tile to bulge almost, creating slight lifts in the tiles. I've asked about this and theyve said it will never look good it's impossible to get level. I'm not too fussed about it being level fully but surely just smooth and not bumpy to walk on should be okay? I'm not sure if this advice is correct. We've saved up just over 3k for this to be done, so for the floor to be bulging and the tile then sticking up because of it doesn't sit right with me when it's a lot of money. Like I said I've put some pics on, it's hard to see the bulges as it's more when you feel them. But it appears to be where the 6mm ply meets whatever they put over the old fireplace part. Any advice is greatly appreciated with this as honestly hate having to keep messaging them/calling them about it
Looks terrible and they're obviously amateurs saying its impossible to get level How did you pay? By card or cash?
Did they see the prep that was needed or lift a carpet and fit same day? Sounds like they haven’t allowed for the correct prep. Those fireplaces can have rising damp that can lift the tiles.
