Hi, I'm a long time lurker, used your advice many times in the past as a fitter so thanks for that! I've transitioned to an estimator for a small shop in Bristol and was hoping to get a bit of advice on a quote I went to do recently Customer is wanting Amtico Form in large parquet throughout big Kitchen/Diner 50m2+ they currently have an engineered wood down that when they sanded showed all the filler in the boards. They want it covered rather than pulled out and its nailed to baton over a concrete base. Bespoke kitchen is all fitted on top so they don't want to rip out. Long story short is I was quoting to just lay 6mm SP101 as normal. Do you learned lot think it's a fair call?
Rip out start again in my opinion….. So many possible issues to be addressed….. Does the concrete under the engineered have a functioning dpm. Is there a dpm between the batons and current engineered wood. Personally I’d not lay over an engineered wood as technically it’s not a sub floor. Without actually seeing the job it’s hard to tell but maybe rip up the engineered (cut where things built on top) install a new chipboard subfloor with relevant dpm and insulation and then 5.5mm ply over that.
100% be ripping that out, just the slightest expansion and contraction will mess that amtico up on its own...
Thanks for the advice. I was thinking over the weekend about maybe a Jumpax installation. As a shop we don't do the construction side, so we would have to walk on the job. I've done smaller jumpax installs but it tended to be on straight lay, large parquet gives me the heebees.
The top brass decided on Moduleo underlay in the end, we convinced the customer to go for large plank straight lay. Kept them informed of the decisions and reasoning behind it. Will let you know in a few years how it went
