    Hi,

New to the forum and love the content being posted. Buying a new build soon and stuck on which flooring option to go for throughout the house. This is what we’d like:

lounge, bedrooms, stairs, upstairs hallway - good quality carpet (initially looked at Cormar/Invictus but it appears the backing isn’t good quality and the thickness will be ruined pretty quick)

kitchen, utility, downstairs wc and hallway - LVT

Upstairs bathroom and en-suite - torn between LVT or just vinyl

any recommended brands to go for and to avoid?

is cloud 9 underlay suitable for the whole house including stairs?

    Many thanks

I’d go for more of a twist pile carpet…… soft thick and fluffy tend to flatten and Matt faster over time prime example is cormar sensation range….. fitted lots of primo ultra and choice elite and yes it’s not the best backing but still a good seller.
If the backing is an issue try abingdons or Victoria ranges as they are slightly better.
Lvt ranges as post above I really like the Harvey Maria m series for realism and moduleo impress

New build will need a surface dpm and screed, the new concrete is never dry enough to fit on without the prep, personally not a fan of cloud 9 ranges they’re overpriced, smell of weed and are relatively soft instead I would recommend Tredaire Ambience. For carpets a good tight twist pile would be my preference, Victoria, Brockway, Westex, Brintons and Ulster are worth looking at.

Thanks for the responses. Any recommendations as to where I can source these carpets? Based in Glasgow. Is it better online?

what sort of £ / sqm does the Victoria range from?

is it ideal to just get the one carpet across the whole house including hallways?

Sticking with the same throughout can be more economical depending on sizes, go to a respectable independent and have them supply and install it makes things much easier if there’s any problems, prices vary on region so I couldn’t say what the average is in your area.

Personally for carpets I'd go Lano Smartstrand, you get the best bits of manmade (Cleaning) with the longevity/rebound of wool. Our store only sells Amtico now, but historically we sold Karndean and Moduleo. All three are decent planks Moduleo can be a bit spiky on their customer service though.
