Hi All, My fitter started laying Karndean in my hallway today with the plan to move through to the kitchen tomorrow. I was expecting better quality around the door frames and carpet but wanted to get a second opinion before raising this with my builder who appointed the fitter. Obviously the door frames are shot and need a good sand and paint which probably makes things look worse. I can also see a few planks in the centre of the room which are starting to raise up in the corner. Am I just being picky?
Absolute gash! He could have multiple tooled the rest of that doorframe seeing as they are pretty rough but looking at the part round the step....say no more. Tell your builder you want someone who takes pride in their work
I don't understand why he didn't just take the carpet up a little and tuck the flooring underneath. The upside is that the kitchen only has one door frame to worry about whereas the hallway has 5 all close together. My concern is that he's more of a tiler that dabbles in LVT and seemed a bit flustered with the Karndean when I popped back at lunch.
A proper fitter should be able to tackle anything so judging by them cuts, lack of adhesion and attention to detail I'd be raising my concerns to whoever is in charge/got him in. No point in letting him crack on for it to be gappy as hell and probably on the piss for you to then have to have an argument with the 'fitter' and builder when they come up with every excuse
The rest of it looks decent and nothing has lifted overnight. It's just the cutting that he seems to be struggling with. Fortunately the kitchen only has one doorway and skirting boards will be fit after so little chance for poor quality.
I spoke to the builder last night and he said to catch up with the flooring chap at lunchtime today. I went back at lunchtime and he'd already finished. Floor looks awful, most has lifted, one plank massively so. I think everything will need tearing up and another fitter to take over.
Some photos from today. You can peel quite a few of the panels off very easily. Quite a few move when you push down on them.
You said little chance of poor quality hey... You should have put a stop to him carrying on soon as you witnessed the efforts in your hallway. Have you paid for this flooring and fitting yet?
