Hi, just have a follow up question if you don’t mind. So ended up going with Ardex NA with the course aggregate. It’s gone ok but due to extra viscosity of the aggregate and the depth of the pour some areas haven’t turned out as level I would like to once we finished the last room we intend to add a very think layers on the areas that need a bit more levelling however we really afford anymore Ardex NA so want to go with a water based option for the thin top, if we primed with SBR would it be ok to use something like Mapei ultra plan just for this thin layer? Defiantly don’t do that….. only thing you can go over n/a with really is n/a….. if you go over it with a water mix as it dries it’s stronger than the n/a it could rip it off the floor as it dries
Hi, can anyone please recommend best option for a think foam/rubber sound proofing layer to go between self levelling and 14mm engineered floor, the substrate under the levelling compound is concrete. The thickness of the soundproofing layer can be between 5mm to 10mm max. There are quite a few options of different rubber or foam options but it’s difficult to ascertain which is best value and if for example 8mm will make much improvement on a 5mm layer etc.. You can’t soundproof like that, to actually soundproof you need mass and lots of it up to a metre thick (that’s the length of some bass frequency waves) and full decoupling from your walls, what exactly are you trying to do stop transit sound or sound from below and what frequencies are you trying to prevent (you’ll want to take acoustic readings to find that out) it gets complicated and expensive depending on your needs. Hi, thanks for the reply. To be honest I’m not too worried about mass as it’s a concrete floor with extra 2cm of levelling compound added, we just need to add a bit of extra impact protection for the apartment below as the floor is changing from carpet to engineered wood floor, we have max of 10mm available due existing skirting height. thanks!
Regupol is probably your only solution based on the height restrictions, do keep in mind it’s not soundproofing and may not be as quiet as you’re hoping, https://www.qaflooringsolutions.com/acoustic-solutions/e-board/e-board-concrete/ would be better but you will need 15mm of clearance. Hi, can I also ask does Ardex NA require a liquid DPM barier (e.g. Sika dpm) before laying sound proofing over it or does it have damp proof properties in it? Many thanks!
Hey! If moisture isn't an issue, an SBR primer should work fine over bitumen. Water-based SLC can be okay, but latex might give better results. Sika DPM is a solid choice if you're budget-conscious. Good luck with the project!
