Hi all, I used setcrete self levelling compound to prepare my floor for laying down some engineered wood. Currently the finish of the setcrete is very dusty. Will the wood floor adhesive stick to this? Should I use a primer, and if so, which one? Thank you in advance!
Yeah I think I did... it was suggested to me to add a bit extra water to get it to spread more easily. In hindsight not such a great idea.
Not the best screed to work with I'd imagine but too much water sounds like your issue. Like Daz has said, scrape up and start again. Wouldn't be attempting to bond wood to that. Did you have your subfloor damp tested for moisture?
For a successful installation of your engineered wood flooring, the surface needs to be clean and dust-free. The dusty finish on your setcrete self-levelling compound may prevent the adhesive from sticking properly. Yes, you should use a primer to ensure a good bond. A recommended option is a PVA (polyvinyl acetate) primer or an acrylic-based primer designed for use with self-levelling compounds and wood floor adhesives. Be sure to follow the primer manufacturer's instructions for best results.
