    Good afternoon,
I have been doing some research into carpets for the entire upstairs and it looks like the Ulster York Wilton may be a good choice, although I can't really find prices online to be able to compare the price I have from a store.
Could I please have some advice regarding:
    1. Differences between the York Wilton and the Grange Wilton (and maybe even the difference in price between the 2 of them)
    2. I can't find the weight of the carpet (40 oz- 50 oz?) and the gauge anywhere
    3. I have a sample at home and it feels quite "loose" but I keep reading that it is really durable: is that correct? I thought that the denser the pile, the longer lasting it would be
    4. I know it is sold in some stores at around £42/sqm- are there other alternatives maybe a bit cheaper, but always 80%wool and 20%nylon?
I am looking to have a carpet which will last the two of us around 15-20 years. If they still exist! The one the house builders put in for us 22 years ago is still going strong, a part for evident wear on the stairs, top of the landing and in some bedrooms. But not worn down completely. It must have been a decent one.
Thank you to anybody who will answer.

Ulster York and Grange Wilton are high quality woven wilton carpets, both will be sufficient for what you need, the Grange is a heavier pile weight although I don't believe Ulster Carpets publish a specific weight for both products.

Both carpets will need an experienced fitter and a good specification underlay and gripper to get the most out of the installation.

The only widely available alternative to York Wilton is Brintons Bell Twist which is usually a little more expensive.

Both products offer unbeateable wear/appearance retention characteristics and will out perform an equivalent Tufted product.

Any 80/20 Twist with Nylon constituting the 20% pile make up will be regarded as a premium carpet.

Thank you very much for your reply. I am seriously considering the York twist after reading very mixed comments on other ones. Few fitters highly recommend Cormar but I am not convinced after reading about delaminating. On paper Penthouse May be ok but not too far in price from the Ulster.
Could I please ask if the Twist would be suitable for stairs and landing, as it feels quite a lot “looser” than the Grange.
    Thank you!

Cannot help with other queries, but I’m looking at these two for my home and price wise - the retailers I spoke to all charge about £10 extra for Grange per square meter. It’s definitely denser - I could feel the difference when I stand on them.

If you can afford the extra cost, the woven backed carpets will always out perform secondary backed and hessian backed

Both Ulster York Wilton and Grange Wilton will be perfect on Stairs. They are a differently league (as is the price) to Cormar carpets and being of Wilton Construction they really will perform exceptionally even when compared to Tufted products from companies like Penthouse, Adams, Westex, Axminster Devonia etc etc.
