Hi all, hope to get some advice for carpet installation & underlay choices, especially for the home office (also maybe used as a guest bedroom). For the context: plan to install Ulster Grange Wilton for the stairs, landing, and bedrooms. One of the bedrooms will be used as home office and possibly also a guest bedroom - hence need to think about comfort and practicality as I will have a wheeled chair. There will be 1-2 people in the house only, and this home office is probably only used by 1 person as home office about 3 days a week. Currently thinking about using Axfelt for all areas, except this home office that I’m not sure yet. I am hoping this carpet will last for 10 years at least hence want to make sure I make the right decision! One option I was provided is using Durafit 650 and double sticking installation method for the study, and stretch fit & Axfelt underlay for the rest areas. Another option is Axfelt and stretch fit for all areas, including the study. Question: 1. Will Durafit be much harder under foot compare to the Axfelt? I have not had chance to test either one… 2. Can Axfelt be installed by using the double sticking method? Ulster themselves said ok, but the retailer I spoke to didn’t recommend it. 3. if I use the double sticking method, will it be hard to remove and replace carpet in future? What about the VOCs from the adhesives- any way to reduce it or a particular brand to use that minimise it? 4. If I stretch fit Axfelt for this study room, any other things I can do to reduce the risk of the wheels rucking the carpet? Someone from this form shared her tip of using another rug on top of the area of chair, does it help? I thought about those plastic mat thing, but currently not my preference as I read examples of people damped the carpet accidentally /without noticing and developed mould under the unbreathable plastic mat… Thank you so much!!
With a castor chair definitely dual stick, all mapei adhesives are low VOC, you absolutely should put something between the carpet and chair no matter the quality of the carpet castors will destroy the pile, you can get plastic protectors with holes to allow some air circulation but I would recommend only having it down when in use Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thank you!! Do you know whether Axfelt can be used for double sticking, or I’m better off using the Durafit one? Thanks again
